Hi there!
We have a teen discussion group at Trinity Anglican Church and we have posted the following message on the Generation web site.
We have been discussing the topic: Is murder a forgivable sin? This has lead us to many other topics such as
-What is Hell?
-Is there an afterlife and if so what is it like?
-the ethics surrounding mercy killings
Most people in our group believe that any sin is forgivable. We talked about the importance of really feeling remorseful and the importance of trying to make things “right” with our neighbour. Intention is an important element of sin. Someone also brought up the idea that to be forgiven, we must truly want forgiveness and not have ulterior motives such as “getting into heaven”.
Some people in the group believed that there are some sins that are unforgivable such as acts of extreme violence (mall shootings etc…).
As far as the afterlife goes, many in the group suggested that if you believe in an afterlife, you will experience one. If you don’t believe in it, you won’t experience it.
We’re just starting this discussion, so we are putting out this challenge to all of you out there in cyber space:
1) Is murder an unforgivable sin?
2) Is there an afterlife, and what do you think that it is like?
3) Most importantly, what does Jesus say about all of this in scripture?
We hope to hear from a lot of people on this issue! You can follow the discussion by clicking on “Generation” above and going to the “Forum” page. Or contact us by email at: trinity@vianet.ca
